La Vista has a Mayor-Council form of government. The Mayor is elected at-large to
a four-year term. Eight city council members are elected from four wards to staggered
four-year terms. The Mayor with confirmation of the City Council appoints a professional
City Administrator to manage the day-to-day operation of the city.
The city has benefited from a stable elected body that provides policy direction
to the staff that is responsible for daily operations. Annually, the mayor and City
Council meet for a strategic planning session, which focuses on the city's future
by identifying a vision for the city. That vision includes adequate city facilities,
quality and diverse development, stable tax policies, cost-efficient services, effective
leadership and a goal-driven city government.
La Vista is served by eight departments that are administration, community development,
fire, library, police, public buildings and grounds, public works and recreation.
The center for local government is the City Hall and Community Center which is located
at 8116 Park View Blvd. and was built in 1994 at a cost of $4 million without the
use of property or sales tax dollars.
You can contact the City Hall by calling (402) 331-4343.
